The inaugural Doctors Club golf day.

In January 2020 Doctors Club partner Goodwood Estate generously offered to host a charity golf day for our members with the intention of raising some money for the charities that we each support. Then the world imploded!

18 months later and after umpteen postponements we finally got down to Sussex… and the sun came out as we arrived after a week of heavy rain. Someone was looking down on us.

Unfortunately, with some restrictions still in place when we played, we had to cancel the formal lunch and estate tour but the breakfast butties on the veranda of The Kennels were pretty damn good.

The Downs course on The Goodwood Estate is a stunningly attractive course with some breath-taking views over the Sussex Downs. However, it is not a course for the faint hearted as some of the less experienced golfers (myself included) found out. The more proficient among us enjoyed the challenge of this immaculately keep course.

We ran the day in a very informal manner but did have a few small competitions to liven up the action.

Jason Ling was the star of the day taking overall honours in the group Stableford competition and smashing the longest drive competition.
Jason didn’t have it all his own way with Barry Marshall dropping his ball in like a pro to win the closest to the pin competition.
We didn’t have time for the putting competition so I’m keeping that trophy and pretending I won.

Thanks to AF Tax Solutions and PPM Software for donating the bottles of bubbly for the mini competition winners, Phast Media for the trophies and Ten Trinity Square for the wine tasting prize.

Charities:

We had originally planned to do much more on the day than we could, and had hoped to raise a decent amount of money for the two charities. As we were just playing golf, we only asked each player for a small donation. We still raised a few hundred pounds for each charity and at the moment every little helps.

The money raised will be split equally between Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity that The Doctors Club supports and Canine Partners which is Goodwood’s chosen charity.

Goodwood Estate:

A huge thanks must go to Robin Irving at his team at The Goodwood Estate both in The Kennels, where we enjoyed brunch and drinks afterwards, and the rest of golfing team who looked after us so well. We wanted to run the day informally and weren’t too demanding, but the care we got and the attention to detail was still faultless. We could not have asked for more.

Finally, if anyone finds the 3 brand new Titleist balls on the 11th they’re mine and I want them back.

Until Next Time.
